Sports Coach
Sports coaches can play an important role in enhancing the quality and breadth of Physical Education and school sport in primary schools. Working alongside teachers, coaches bring specialist knowledge, enthusiasm and varied experiences that help children develop confidence, skills and positive attitudes towards physical activity.
Beyond the Physical
Beyond the Physical is a physical literacy and mastery-based PE scheme of work designed to deliver a progressive, inclusive and engaging PE curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. It focuses on developing the whole child through the principles of Move, Solve and Connect, ensuring pupils develop physical, cognitive and social skills alongside a lifelong love of movement. The curriculum is organised into progressive Learning Themes, rather than traditional sport-specific units. Each theme focuses on transferable skills that apply across a range of physical activities. Each Learning Theme is built around three key words, which define the learning focus for the unit and support mastery of key skills.
Leeds United Primary Stars
The programme is part of the Premier League Primary Stars initiative, delivered locally by the Leeds United Foundation in schools across Leeds.
Its purpose is to use football and sport to:
- improve PE quality
- increase pupil engagement and activity
- support teacher development and confidence
- develop life skills (teamwork, respect, resilience)
Coaches:
- deliver PE lessons alongside class teachers
- model high-quality delivery
- support planning and differentiation
-
gradually hand ownership back to staff
As a result of the Sports Premium funding stopping in 2026/2027, Beeston Primary School will continue to push PE and use funding wisely to enhance our offer and deliver a broad, inclusive curriculum.
