Year 1 Home Learning

We will be uploading activities to this page every week. In addition to this you may want to have a look at the lessons being published daily on The Oak National Academy here. There are videos of teachers delivering the lessons. You may also want to have a look at the BBC Bitesize content for Year 1 here too or even on the red button on your TV.

Please note...our free access to Emile came to an end at the end of June so children's accounts will now have closed.


We will be uploading your home learning activities weekly. Every Monday you will receive 5 days of activities. If you are attending school you will complete the RED HIGHLIGHTED activities in school within your bubbles. (DO NOT COMPLETE THESE AT HOME IF YOU ARE ATTENDING SCHOOL) You can complete the rest of the activities during the three days you are at home. If you are NOT attending school you can complete ALL of the activities.

This week we are learning to recognise and spell compound words. Take a look at the compound word PP and then complete one of the worksheets below.

Use the picture to answer the questions below:

·        Where are the girl and the dragon? What can they see from this place? What are they looking at?

·        Why are they here?

·        Are they friends? Does the girl own the dragon as a pet? 

·        What species of dragon do you think it is? Is it friendly?

·        Write a sentence describing the dragon.

Complete a book review of the story. You could set it out like the example below!

Today you are going to make your own wand. Fill in the wand information sheet afterwards. Be craetive and have fun!

Day 3:

This week we are going to be looking at a book called ‘The Storm Whale’. Below is a picture from this story. Can you answer the questions below?

1.      How many cats are there in the picture?

2.      Where is Noi’s dad going?

3.      When will Noi’s dad return home again?

4.      How do you think Noi feels in this picture?

5.      What do you think Noi might do while his Dad is at work?

 

Day 4:

Today we can listen to the full story of ‘The Storm Whale’.

In the story Noi finds a whale washed up on the beach:

Challenge: Write a diary entry as if you are Noi and explain what you have found on the beach. You might explain what you are going to do. Use the sentence stems below to help you.

Re-watch the story of ‘The Storm Whale’. Noi takes the whale back to the sea because he knows that is where it belongs. Look at the information about whales below:

MATHS:

Can you complete this week’s Maths challenges using the skills you have learnt in Year 1?

Today we are going to take our maths learning outside. Can you find some natural objects and sort them in to different criteria?

Look carefully at the table of data it shows us ‘children’s favourite fruit in the class’.
